Norbert device FAQs
Setup
How long does it take to set up Norbert device?
Typically it takes between 5 to 10 minutes to set up a new device.
What is required to set up the device in addition to what is included in the box?
A tablet (Android only)
Access to WiFi and WiFi password
What is the setup configuration?
The device must be placed no further than 3.5 feet (1 meter) from the screening area. The subject must stand on the designated space looking straight at the device two cameras. Failure to follow this configuration and/or exceeding the recommended distance guidelines may result in less accurate skin temperature readings.
Can I set up the system outside the entrance of my building or near a door?
Norbert device is intended for use in temperature-controlled environments (inside) with a stable ambient temperature.
How many devices would I need for my office?
This is at the discretion of the user and the size of the population that is intended to be scanned. We would suggest multiple scanning stations (Norbert scanning systems) for businesses that intend to use multiple entrance points or have a large population size. Norbert device takes approximately 2-3 seconds per measurement, if setup in recommended conditions.
Accuracy and performance
How accurate is Norbert device? Norbert device has ± 0.3°C (0.5°F) measurement accuracy.
Does skin color affect the system?
No, skin color does not affect system performance.
How does ambient temperature affect the device measurements?
Ambient temperatures can affect the measurement as they can alter the temperature of a person’s skin. We strongly suggest that the Norbert device is used indoors. For the optimal device performance we recommend to place the device where the room temperature is between 66 and 89℉ (19 and 32℃).
Why am I seeing temperature variation on the same person's measurement?
In humans, the average internal temperature is 37.0 °C (98.6 °F), though it varies among individuals. However, no person always has exactly the same temperature at every moment of the day. Temperatures cycle regularly up and down through the day, as controlled by the person's circadian rhythm.
Can the device screen more than 1 person at a time?
No, the system intelligently looks for a single face to begin measurement. Please have only one subject in the device scene at a time.
Software
How do I update Norbert device software?
What should I do if someone has elevated temperature detected by Norbert device?
The FDA recommends that an elevated body temperature measurement is confirmed with secondary evaluation methods (e.g., non-contact infrared thermometer (NCIT) or clinical grade contact thermometer).
Technology used
Does Norbert device use facial recognition?
Norbert does not use facial recognition. Instead, Norbert uses facial detection to determine when a subject is in the camera scene. There is no determination made on the identity of the person being screened, and the visible camera is solely used to detect the presence of a face for accurate temperature measurement.
